Vagee

Growing up, Vagee never saw alcohol or marijuana as a problem, but they were the beginning of years of substance abuse. By 26, she was addicted to meth. When she found out she was pregnant, she tried to stay sober but relapsed, leading to an open Children’s Protective Services case. After her children were placed in foster care, Vagee knew she had to make a change.

She completed a six-month program and remained in recovery for nearly a year before relapsing during COVID. Determined to turn her life around, she entered Gateways at Talbert House in November 2021. There, she gained the tools and support needed for lasting recovery. Today, Vagee is a devoted parent, a dedicated employee, and an active member of the recovery community. Sobriety has given her a new lease on life, and she is grateful for the journey.

“My worst day clean is better than my best day using. And I am grateful.”

Woman

Sandra

Sandra’s story is one of resilience. After losing her mother at nine, she sought belonging but fell into addiction. Homeless and trapped in a cycle of shame, she lost hope.

Talbert House’s Gateway program changed everything. She found support at the Engagement Center and moved into Jordan House, where she embraced recovery. "I didn’t realize addiction was a disease of the mind, body, and spirit." The 12-step program helped her heal, make amends, and rebuild her life.

Now sober, Sandra cherishes her family, sponsors women in recovery, and volunteers. "Helping others helps me stay sober." Her journey proves recovery is possible, one step at a time.
